Frequently asked

The questions I get asked most.

If yours is not here, message me and ask. I answer every one myself, and there is no such thing as a daft question.

Getting started

Getting started

  • How much does coaching cost?

It depends on whether you train with me in person or online, and how much support you want. Rather than putting a number on a page that may not apply to you, tell me your goal and where you are now, and I will come back with a plan and a cost. I will tell you straight, with no sales pitch, and if I think somebody else would serve you better I will say that too.

  • Am I tied into a contract?

We will agree the arrangement between us before anything starts, and I will be completely clear about it so there are no surprises. Ask me when you enquire and I will lay out exactly how it works.

  • I am a complete beginner. Will I be out of my depth?

No, and beginners are genuinely some of my favourite clients, because everything works and there are no bad habits to undo. You get technique guidance, a session structure that tells you exactly what to do and in what order, and someone to message the first time a machine confuses you.

  • I am over 40. Is it too late to start?

Not remotely. Some of my best results have come from clients in their forties, fifties and beyond, including a woman who came to me for bikini posing and went on to win a NABBA Masters Championship. What changes after 40 is recovery, joint care and how we manage intensity. That is a programming question, and it is my job to solve it.

  • I am a woman. Will lifting weights make me bulky?

No. I say that as someone who has spent nearly three decades deliberately trying to build muscle, so I know exactly how hard it is. Lifting properly gives you shape, strength, better bone density and a body that holds its condition. It will not accidentally turn you into a bodybuilder.

  • Can you get me ready for my first bodybuilding show?

Yes, and I will walk you through every part of it. Choosing a federation and a class, how long your prep realistically needs, peak week, your tan, your suit, what happens backstage, and your posing. I have competed at the highest level in the sport and taken a lot of people to a stage for the first time.

  • How quickly will I see results?

That depends on where you are starting and how consistent you are, and anyone who gives you a guaranteed number is guessing. What I will tell you is that most people notice how they feel long before they notice how they look, usually within the first two or three weeks. Visible change follows.

Online coaching

Online coaching

  • What is included in online coaching?

A training programme written for you, nutrition targets that fit your actual week, weekly check-ins with a written review from me, video form reviews, direct message access, and adjustments to your plan as your body responds. If you are heading for a stage, it also covers federation and class choice, prep timeline, peak week and posing.

  • Do I need a gym membership for online coaching?

No, but you do need somewhere to train consistently. I have written programmes for full commercial gyms, budget chains, garage setups and hotel gyms. Tell me what equipment you can get to and I will build around it. Your kit shapes the plan, it does not decide the outcome.

  • How often do we speak?

You check in with me once a week with your numbers, your photos and how the week actually went, and you get a written response back from me every time. On top of that you have direct message access, so if something comes up mid-week you are not waiting seven days to ask.

  • Do I have to follow a strict diet?

No. I do not do banned foods, weighing broccoli in restaurants, or plans that fall apart the first time life happens. You get targets and a structure you can hold down on a night shift, on holiday or around a school run. A plan you can actually keep beats a perfect plan you abandon in three weeks.

  • Do you coach online outside the UK?

Yes. Online coaching works anywhere with an internet connection, and I have clients across the UK, Europe and the US. Time zones have never been a problem, because check-ins are written rather than live.

Training in person

Training in person

  • Where do you train clients in person?

At Powerbeck Gym in Leigh, and at PWR Strength and Conditioning in Ashton-in-Makerfield. Between the two I cover Leigh, Wigan, Ashton-in-Makerfield, St Helens and the surrounding parts of Greater Manchester.

Competition posing

Competition posing

  • What happens in a posing session?

We work on your mandatory poses, the transitions between them, your stage walk and your routine. Posing is where shows are won and lost. Two athletes in the same condition can place five apart because one of them knows how to present what they have built. Sessions run face to face in the North West or over video anywhere in the world.

Still unsure

Just ask me.

If you have got a question I have not covered, send it over. I would far rather answer it now than have you talk yourself out of starting.
